A la Sexta Internacional: What follows is a proposal for “An International Day of Action Against Repression and for the Liberation of All Political Prisoners in Mexico.” We are Movement for Justice in El Barrio. We are an organization of Mexican immigrants that were forced to leave Mexico and come to New York because of the neoliberal system. We fight against the displacement from our homes here in New York and for the liberation of our Mexico. We are adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and part of The Other Campaign. We thank you for allowing us to share our humble and simple word.
Me permito plantear la siguiente propuesta por “Un Día Internacional de Movilizaciones contra la Represión y Por la Ex-carcelación de Todos los Prisioneros Políticos en México.” Somos el Movimiento para la Justicia en El Barrio. Una organización de inmigrantes mexicanos que fuimos forzados a abandonar México y llegar a Nueva York como resultado del sistema neoliberal. Luchamos contra el desalojo y eviccion de nuestras viviendas en Nueva York y por la liberación de México. Somos adherentes a la Sexta Declaración de la Selva Lacandona y formamos parte de La Otra Campaña. Les agradecemos nos permitan compartir estas simples palabras.
From where we are, North of the Rio Bravo, we are filled with pain and rage to hear about the repression being exerted by the Mexican government on The Other Campaign. The repression began more than a year ago with the terrible events in San Salvador Atenco. As the strength of The Other Campaign grew, the repression spread to Oaxaca, Yucatan, Chiapas, San Luis Potosi and to all different parts of the country. The repression has included police brutality, torture, arbitrary detentions, the murder of two youth, and the rape of detained women. In the past few months the repression has intensified. Recently, soldiers from the federal army harassed Zapatista Delegates from the Sixth Commission, the Compañero David Vanegas was beaten and illegally jailed in Oaxaca, three members of the People’s Front for the Defense of the Land, from Atenco, were illegally sentenced to 67 years in prison, and these are not the only cases. This repression fills us with anger. That is why we propose that we unite the strength of the many struggles that make up The Other Campaign to oppose this repression and demand freedom for all political prisoners in Mexico.
En donde estamos, al Norte del Río Bravo, estamos llenos de dolor y rabia al escuchar de la represión del gobierno Mexicano en contra de La Otra Campaña. La represión comenzó hace más de un año, con los terribles acontecimientos en San Salvador Atenco. Como La Otra Campaña iba creciendo, la represión se esparció a Oaxaca, Yucatán, Chiapas, San Luis Potosí y varias otras regiones del país. La represión incluyó brutalidad policíaca, tortura, encarcelaciones arbitrarias, la muerte de dos jóvenes y la vejación sexual de las mujeres detenidas. En los últimos meses la represión se ha recrudecido. Recientemente soldados del ejército federal hostigaron a los Delegados Zapatistas a la Sexta Comisión, el compañero David Venegas (el «alebrije») fue golpeado y encarcelado ilegalmente en Oaxaca, tres integrantes del Frente Popular Para la Defensa de la Tierra, de Atenco, fueron sentenciados a 67 años de cárcel, y no son los únicos casos. Esta represión nos llena de rabia. Por eso es que proponemos unir las fuerzas que conforman este movimiento de lucha para repudiar esta represión y exigir la excarcelación de los prisioneros políticos en México.
We are putting out a call for actions and protests all over Mexico and the world as part of an “International Day of Action against Repression and for the Liberation of All Political Prisoners in Mexico.” We propose that the actions take place on Tuesday, the 26th of June. We also propose the following demands:
Estamos llamando a manifestaciones y protestas en todo México y el Mundo como parte del “Día Internacional de la Movilización Contra la Represión y Por la Ex-Carcelación de los Prisioneros Políticos en México.” Proponemos que esta movilización se lleve a cabo el Martes, 26 de junio. Y exigimos lo siguiente:
1. Liberty and justice for all the political prisoners
2. The cancellation of the illegal sentences against Ignacio del Valle Medina, Felipe Alvarez Hernandez, and Hector Galindo Gochicua, members of The People’s Front for the Defense of the Land.
3. An end to the harassment of the Sixth Commission
4. An end to the harassment, intimidation, repression and detention of members of “The Other Campaign.”
1. Libertad y Justicia para todos los prisioneros políticos.
2. La cancelación de las sentencias ilegales en contra de Ignacio del Valle Medina, Felipe Álvarez Hernández, y Héctor Galindo Gochiua, integrantes del Frente Popular para La Defensa de la Tierra.
