Part of Nuevo Cine: Recent Latin American Films

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 6:30 - 8:30pm

Following the tradition common to many Latin American countries in whichWednesday night is movie night, El Museo presents Nuevo Cine, a film seriesof new fiction and documentary films and videos that address issues relatedto the Latino community, on the first Wednesday of each month.

Super Amigos

With adrenaline, a theme addressed by El Museo's Bienal: The (S) Files 007,as a point of departure, El Museo presents the New York premiere of Super Amigos, Dir. Arturo Pérez Torres (2007/Canadá, Mexico/82 min./documentary/English). Mexico City is not Gotham City, but if you were to run into any of the five masked activists who protect this metropolis, you’d wonder if you were living inside a comic book. These modern-day super heroes are a group of Lucha Libre wrestlers who have taken their fight out of the ring and into the streets. Super Barrio, Super Gay, Super Ecologista, Super Animal, and Fray Tormenta are masked super heroes who fight against evil slumlords, corrupt politicians, homophobia, pollution, animal rights abusers, and poverty.
